How to dispose of Diapers in California

Some areas have diaper composting pilot programs. Check with your waste hauler.

General steps

1. Dump solid waste from the diaper into the toilet (recommended by most waste authorities).
2. Roll up the diaper tightly and secure with the adhesive tabs.
3. Place in a sealed diaper pail or tied plastic bag to contain odor.
4. Put in regular household trash — diapers are NOT recyclable in most areas.
5. Consider cloth diapers or compostable diaper services to reduce landfill waste.
