How to dispose of Glass (Bottles, Jars & Broken)
Steps
- Rinse glass bottles and jars — food residue contaminates recycling batches.
- Remove metal lids (recycle separately). Labels can stay on.
- Place in curbside recycling bin if your program accepts glass.
- Broken glass: Wrap in newspaper or cardboard, label 'BROKEN GLASS', and place in trash.
- Window glass, mirrors, and ceramics do NOT go in bottle recycling — different melting points.
Glass is 100% recyclable and can be recycled endlessly without loss in quality. One ton of recycled glass saves 1,300 pounds of sand.
