How to dispose of Motor Oil & Automotive Fluids

Steps

  1. Never pour motor oil down drains, on the ground, or in the trash.
  2. Collect used oil in a clean, leak-proof container with a tight lid.
  3. Take to an auto parts store (AutoZone, O'Reilly, Advance Auto Parts) — most accept used oil for free.
  4. Many service stations and quick-lube shops also accept used oil.
  5. Used oil filters should be drained and recycled separately.

Motor oil is a hazardous material. One gallon can contaminate 1 million gallons of water.

Used motor oil can be re-refined into new oil. Most auto parts stores accept it free.
