Maintenance schedule
- Lubricate lock cylinder with graphite — Annually
- Tighten screws on handles and strike plates — Every 6 months
- Test deadbolt engagement — Every 6 months
- Replace batteries (smart locks) — Every 6–12 months
- Re-key after moving into a new home — Once
Signs it needs replacing
- Key sticking or hard to turn
- Lock doesn't latch properly
- Visible rust or corrosion
- Smart lock connectivity issues
- Lock is a Grade 3 (residential minimum) — upgrade to Grade 1 or 2
