How to dispose of Appliance Cords & Power Cables in California
California rules
E-waste recyclers accept all cords and cables. Check CalRecycle for locations.
General steps
- Unplug detachable cords. Do not cut hardwired cables or dismantle an appliance; have a qualified person isolate wiring and ask the recycler whether cords should remain attached.
- Bundle cords together with a zip tie or rubber band.
- Take to a scrap metal recycler — copper wire has value.
- Best Buy and Staples accept cables and cords for free recycling.
