How to dispose of Christmas Trees in California

Most cities offer free curbside tree pickup and recycling in January.

General steps

1. Remove ALL decorations, lights, tinsel, and the tree stand.
2. Check your city's curbside Christmas tree pickup schedule (usually first 2 weeks of January).
3. Take to a designated tree recycling drop-off location to be chipped into mulch.
4. Cut into small sections if your trash hauler requires it for green waste pickup.
5. Some cities offer curbside chipping — place unbagged tree at curb on scheduled days.
