How to dispose of Glass (Bottles, Jars & Broken) in Oregon

Oregon rules

Bottle bill — glass bottles have 10¢ deposit refund at BottleDrop locations.

General steps

  1. Rinse glass bottles and jars — food residue contaminates recycling batches.
  2. Remove metal lids (recycle separately). Labels can stay on.
  3. Place in curbside recycling bin if your program accepts glass.
  4. Broken glass: Wrap in newspaper or cardboard, label 'BROKEN GLASS', and place in trash.
  5. Window glass, mirrors, and ceramics do NOT go in bottle recycling — different melting points.
