How to dispose of Motor Oil & Automotive Fluids in California

Certified Used Oil Collection Centers accept oil for free. Visit calrecycle.ca.gov.

General steps

1. Never pour motor oil down drains, on the ground, or in the trash.
2. Collect used oil in a clean, leak-proof container with a tight lid.
3. Take to an auto parts store (AutoZone, O'Reilly, Advance Auto Parts) — most accept used oil for free.
4. Many service stations and quick-lube shops also accept used oil.
5. Used oil filters should be drained and recycled separately.
